Azure Cosmos DB

Globally distributed, multi-model NoSQL database service with low latency and elastic scalability from Microsoft Azure. · Azure · Database

Overview

Azure Cosmos DB offers a globally distributed, multi-model NoSQL database with low latency, elastic scalability, and a generous always-free tier for small workloads.

Good fit

Use when you need a globally distributed, low-latency NoSQL database with flexible data models and automatic scaling.

  • multi-region apps
  • real-time workloads
  • serverless architectures

Not a fit

Avoid if you require a traditional relational database, or if your workload consistently exceeds the free tier limits.

  • strict relational schema
  • large-scale free workloads
  • on-premises only deployments
Quickstart · 5 steps
  1. Sign in to the Azure Portal and create a new Cosmos DB account, selecting the free tier option.
  2. Choose your preferred API (Core SQL, MongoDB, Cassandra, Gremlin, or Table).
  3. Configure region(s) for global distribution if needed.
  4. Create a database and container within your account.
  5. Connect to Cosmos DB using the SDK or REST API from your application.
